Why you can (but probably shouldn’t) do stopping flights with kids

Why you can (but probably shouldn’t) do stopping flights with kids

So, we decided to leave our toddler with his Gran for the weekend and do a city break to Porto with just our baby. We figured that as we wouldn’t have our toddler we’d save a few hundred pounds and do a flight that stopped in Lisbon with TAP Air Portugal. We’ve done tonnes of flights and barely any have been delayed, so with nearly 2 hours to catch our connecting flight at 9pm we thought we’d be fine. Once…

86,312th plastic bottle saved (Hurray for water dispensers at airports)

86,312th plastic bottle saved (Hurray for water dispensers at airports)

Slightly odd post, perhaps, but I just have to wax lyrical about how much I love the new water dispenser at Heathrow (T2). Yes, yes, I know, plastic bottles, boring. But really, plastic bottles are soooo bad for the environment. I generally dislike the bottled water industry anyway because they’ve tried to convince the world that we need to have a company put the most basic source of human nourishment in a sealed, plastic container before we can consume it….

Making the most of a delayed flight

Making the most of a delayed flight

We decided to take a last minute flight to Porto, Portugal for the St John’s day festival. At Heathrow airport now and unfortunately our flight is delayed. Making the most of it at The Perfectionist restaurant (Heathrow, Terminal 2). Lovely cocktails, gormet garlic bread and ice cream sundays to finish. Not such a bad start to the trip!

London festivals: Cally Fest near Kings Cross station

London festivals: Cally Fest near Kings Cross station

If you’re looking for something to do near Kings Cross this summer then I recommend finding one of the London festivals. I’ve just got back from Cally Fest – an annual London festival held along Caledonia Road, about a 10 minute walk from Kings Cross station. We’ve been living in Islington for a few years, so have been to this particular festival a few times and it just keeps getting bigger and better. Things to do at Cally Fest Entertainment…

Minimalist travel for the modern family

Minimalist travel for the modern family

Whether you’re backpacking in the forest or jet setting to a tropical paradise, minimalist travel can help remove unnecessary stresses. There’s something very freeing about packing light. You travel with only those things that you really need. I’ve heard of minimalist travellers sawing their toothbrushes in half to get rid of extra weight. Most of us don’t need to be truly minimalist. We want some of our possessions with us and we don’t have time to be sawing toothbrushes in…

How to remain calm when your child is having a meltdown

How to remain calm when your child is having a meltdown

My first child had loads of trouble sleeping. In hindsight, I know that it was a combination of several things, but part of it was that I got very stressed and upset when he cried and almost always handed him off to my husband.  I remember one particular moment where I was at a friend’s house (they weren’t there at the time – I was alone) and I’d failed to get him to sleep. He was so tired, but just couldn’t…

Travelling with children – Why you shouldn’t bring their favourite toys

Travelling with children – Why you shouldn’t bring their favourite toys

When you’re travelling with children the last thing you want is for them to be bored. It may be tempting to bring their latest flashy toy that the just absolutely had to have, but resist the urge (and their complaining). Here are three reasons why: 1. It won’t entertain your kids for nearly as long as you’d think. The problem with flashy toys is once they’ve been played with the child loses interest. At best they’ll then discard the toy,…

Travel with kids – What toys should you bring on planes and trains?

Travel with kids – What toys should you bring on planes and trains?

The idea of travel with kids can be stressful. For some parents the idea of flying with kids actually prevents them from booking holidays abroad. However, many many families manage to travel with kids successfully. They even enjoy the opportunity to bond with their children. Part of this is experience – travel with kids gets a lot easier the more you do it! But it’s also about preparation. Turn travel with kids from something to be avoided into something the…
